Self care is a term floating around the internet a lot lately-which is a great thing-we could all use more of it for our mental wellness and sanity. So, is it really just treating yourself to a mani/pedi or binging a series on Netflix?
Yes, but no, but yes. Let me explain..
I think the term self care in its truest form is something that really feeds your soul, to get a little cheesy. That will look differently for each individual.
Passions–great way to “fill yourself up”
If you’re looking for a lasting impact that you can carry into the rest of your day, I suggest a daily habit of yoga, meditation, journaling, or grounding. When I started practicing meditation daily, it helped me set a positive tone to my day. I could return to this feeling of peace throughout the day whenever shit would hit the fan. Research has even shown that meditation actually changes the chemical makeup of your brain. To manage stress long term, strive to engage in one of these forms of self care to truly connect with your inner self and find healing.
If you just need more of a quick fix and want to decompress, then I’m all for getting a facial, taking a bubble bath or indulging in some chocolate and wine. Ask yourself what you need in the moment. Maybe you had an absolutely draining day at work and you want to escape into the drama of Real Housewives. Do it. I get it 100%. My guilty pleasure is reality shows, they literally makes me feel better.
Hope this encouraged you to schedule some self care into your day, just as you would any other important appointment. Enjoy taking a walk on the beach or visualizing one during meditation.
As a new mom, I want to make self care more of a focus in my life, so I’ll be featuring a new method or product I’m smitten with every #selfcaresunday. To kick it off, I started using a Beautycounter plumping + jasmine facial oil and countermatch recovery sleeping cream courtesy of Tara from The Mama H blog. Read my review here.
If you want me to review your self care related product of book, would love to collab! x
