Blogging requires you to put yourself out there and share pieces of who you are. It’s an amazing platform, but can be a bit intimidating at times. That’s why it means so much to receive some recognition. A HUGE thank you to the sweet Valerie Buaquen for nominating me for the Leibster Award!! You can follow along on her amazing adventures on her travel blog. She has 13 countries down and the world to go!
The Leibster Award was created to promote new blogs and support the growing blogging community. I’m all about community over competition and women supporting other women!
Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, beloved, lovely, valued, cute and endearing. Awwww, I love that. Valerie asked me to answer these questions so you can get to know the voice behind Ask Erica a little better.
What inspired you to create your blog?
I’ve been a counselor for 10 years and was so inspired by the girls and women’s stories that I was privileged to hear. I was impacted by their resiliency, their drive and their dreams for the future. It moved me to want to give readers a glimpse into our conversations because they may be facing the same issue. Even before that, when I was in high school, I loved listening to my friends share problems they were struggling with and sharing my advice. Sometimes, all they needed was someone to vent to and I enjoyed being that support. I’m also passionate about writing, I find it to be really therapeutic. I’ve always kept journals since I was in 2nd grade. My blog became an extension of that. So, I thought-why not intertwine my 2 passions-writing and giving advice-and create an advice blog to help inspire women to create a balanced life? I put a spotlight on mental health and wellbeing, which I believe needs to be talked about more openly. Readers can ask me to give my advice on a problem they are having (confidentially) or they can read about other women’s stories and be inspired. My hope is that readers leave the site feeling more empowered, like “they’ve got this”.
If you were not blogging, what would you be doing?
I was sooo close to majoring in journalism in college. I was very conflicted between that and psychology. So, if I had went that route, I would like to dream and say I’d be writing for Elle, Vogue or maybe O Magazine.
If you only have $50 to spend for 3 days of traveling abroad, how would you spend it?
Very sparingly! Could I survive on only $50?! Haha! I would use it towards food and wine at a local popular spot. And I’d try to make friends with the locals to soak up their culture. If I ran out of money, I’d just walk around the city, look at the architecture and people watch.
If you were to create a mobile app for travel, what would it be and what is it for?
I’m not sure if this already exists, but I’d like an app to tell me the hidden gems I should visit, not just the big touristy attractions.
Would you rather be thorns on a cactus or a rose?
Rose. Duh. They’re pretty, but you better handle with care. 😉
What or who do you think you were in a past life?
I’ve always been drawn to the flappers of the 20’s. That era was full of celebrations, embracing the moment and women were finding a new sense of freedom. Plus, I love the fashion and hair. Maybe I’ve read and watched The Great Gatsby too much. Lol!
I’m excited to keep spreading the blogger love! I want to to nominate these blogger babes because they share awesome content and their passion is evident. Follow them for more inspo!
Here are my questions for you ladies. Continue the nominations by choosing 5 of your fave bloggers and ask them any questions you want to know! Read more about the official rules for the Liebster Award here.
