5K ∇ Yoga ∇ Meditation
The Wanderlust 108 event left me feeling inspired and eager to learn more about mindfulness. As you know from my posts, I’ve recently begun a meditation practice. So, I was thrilled when my cousin reached out to me about attending this event. She happened to score free tix the day before. It’s funny how you put something out into the universe and it attracts exactly what you were looking for. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I’ll take it!
The event started at Grant Park with a 5K run. The route took us past Lake Michigan and by the museum campus, for those familiar with Chicago. No one was letting the cold windy day dampen our spirits. After a quick snack (kale burgers are really good!) and coffee break, Erin and I tried aeriel yoga. I can’t recommend this enough, it was sooo fun! Great way to stretch, twist and turn upside down. During the final pose, we were laying in the silk hammock, which enveloped us like a cocoon. So relaxing, I could have fallen asleep and taken a lil cat nap.
The MC and DJ were awesome and motivated us to dance and jump around to stay warm. Doing yoga poses to Nicki Minaj and dance music…yes, please! Then it was time for the group yoga session with an amazing yoga teacher. I have to say-It’s pretty cool to be surrounded by hundreds of people in tree pose with our arms linked. And the amazing backdrop of the city just added to the experience. It definitely reignited my interest in yoga.
The final leg of the event was the guided meditation portion, which was my favorite. The speaker- Noah Levine shared his incredible story of how he came to find meditation as his saving grace. He was introduced to mindfulness while in juvenile hall and it forever changed the course of his life. Full circle, he now holds mediation workshops in juvenile halls and prisons. He founded Against The Stream Buddhist Meditation Society. Talk about embracing your purpose! I picked up 2 of his books and will write a post on each in case you’re interested in hearing more of his story and his philosophy.
Amazing experience! Tix are around $50. If the fest is coming to your city, you have to go! They even host full weekend events that look insane!! See schedule here.
Be Inspired. Daily.
